25 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. ○ Learners should practice writing the addition and subtraction facts learned in class ○ Learners should practice singing the math songs taught in class ○ Learners should retell the math story to their parents, sibling or grandparentsAssessment
○ Learners will be given a fact family by the Teacher that they will draw, explain and demonstrateClass Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
In these ongoing small group math sessions, learners will receive instruction in math covering number and place value, addition, subtraction facts and strategies, greater than/less than, measurement, skip counting, regrouping, explore standard, expanded, word forms, time, money and more, taking the learner from where they are today to a new level of understanding in a fun and engaging way. Learners will develop a solid understanding of how numbers work, the operations of addition and subtraction, and possibly the beginning operation process of multiplication depending on the level of learners in the group. Learners will work on computation of numbers as well as reading, understanding and completing word problems, read and retell math stories. Learners will play math games from time-to-time and have math challenges to complete, helping to make what learners sometimes believe to be a boring subject [math] FUN! These sessions are great for learners who are on grade level but need a deeper understanding of how numbers really work, want ongoing practice, stimulation and practice, need additional math help, or want to get ahead for the next school year. Because these sessions are small in number, each learner will get attention at the level where they are performing. Learners come sharpener your math skills, meet new friends and have a good time learning what numbers are all about. Lessons are self contained so learners can join at any time, and hopefully stay for a while. Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University
Being an educator for forty + years, I've taught all subjects to students K-8 which included math classes at all levels. I've taught special needs students and designed full curriculum for K-12 students. In addition, I have taught students online for seven years. When I was a young student, I thought I didn't like math because any thing above addition and subtraction seemed a little hard for me. The truth was, I didn't understand the fundamentals of math operations, even though I could calculate and get the right answers every time when adding or subtracting. This is why I am so passionate about learners understanding the concept and relationship to numbers and operations, because once they understand that, learners can build on the basic fundamentals taught at this age and excel in Math and really begin to love it as I do now.
