55 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Students will sometimes be given follow up assignments and parents will be given areas to focus on between sessions.Assessment
I will assess the skills your learner is working on during each session. Reading and spelling assessments will be given as needed to track your child's progress.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Instruction will be based on parent input, teacher recommendations if available, and evaluations that I give to your child. The reading evaluations may include assessing phonological awareness, phonics, sight words, fluency, and comprehension. The spelling assessment will determine how well your child knows the sounds of each letter, English spelling patterns, and spelling rules. The writing assessments will evaluate how well your child brainstorms an idea, writes in complete sentences, uses correct grammar, and expresses ideas clearly. Each session will be tailored to your child's strengths and areas of difficulty. If comprehension is an area of weakness, we will use reading passages and skill pages that I have, as well as assignments given by your child's teacher, if applicable. If decoding is an area of weakness, we will use the All About Reading program, which is an Orton-Gillingham approach that uses multi-sensory learning. If spelling is an area of difficulty, we will use the All About Spelling program. This is an Orton Gillingham approach to spelling that uses multi-sensory learning through letter tiles and writing. Writing instruction will be based on your child's current level so it could range from writing multiple sentences on one topic to writing an effective paragraph. I will take notes on your student's progress during each session and will use that to plan future instruction. I will assess your child's skills in each focus area on a regular basis to guide instruction. Your child's personality, learning needs, and age will guide how I teach each skill. Week 1: Evaluations in reading, writing, and spelling to determine focus areas Week 2: Address focus area one with incremental steps that lead to mastery Week 3: Continue teaching skills in focus area one until mastery Week 4: Revaluate focus area one to determine which skills have been mastered and which require reteaching Week 5: Reteach the first focus area or begin teaching a new focus area
Learning Goals
Students will become more confident and skilled readers and will be able to enjoy reading more. Students will learn how to write clearly and effectively with proper grammar and correct spelling.
