Class Experience
In this class, students will practice many different types of word problems. The class will be fun and interactive. I will use animated, interactive slides to demonstrate the word problems. I will use the strategies that I have taught in my class, "Math Word Problem Fun: First Grade Strategies for Success". Although it is not required, it is highly recommended that your learner take this class first. We will, however, review the strategies quickly at the beginning of class. Your learner...
Learning goals include: -reading the word problem and finding the key words -drawing a diagram or picture to visualize the word problem -using a number line -writing a number sentence -solving word problems of unknowns in all positions -solving word problems including adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart and comparing
1 file available upon enrollmentA word problem template will be attached to your welcome email. Students may print and use this during class. We will solve multiple word problems during class. They may also just use a pencil and paper or white board.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
