This class is one of my most popular classes! This is an ongoing 1st grade class that will meet 4x a week and can be used on a weekly basis or throughout the whole school year. This math program is more challenging than your "average" first-grade math class. Our daily class follows the following schedule: Math Facts Calendar skills - days, months, spelling of each, real life story problems Mini Lessons - See below for concepts covered Math facts review through games and Sharing Each class has 4-5 mini-lessons that are 5-10 minutes long (short burst of learning) covering a variety of topics like multi-step addition & subtraction, time, money, fractions, graphs, story problems, shapes, and calendar to name a few. This class is tailored to the students in the class. This is NOT a traditional lecture class. Everyone is expected to keep cameras on and participate. Each week is stand-alone. We learn a lot, move through the material with short bursts of learning, laugh a lot and reinforce with daily homework and periodic assessments. Topics May Include: Counting - Fun, active rote counting to song (counting to 200, skip counting by 5's, 10's, 2's, 3's forward and backward) Number sense - <,>,=, 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, reading and writing numbers to 100 Mental math strategies - counting in ones, tens and hundreds place, adding 0 and 1, counting on, counting back, doubles, doubles +1, make 10, adding or subtracting 10, facts that make 10, using number line Addition and Subtraction word problems to 20 Base 10 - using Hundreds, Tens and Ones Chart, unix cubes, etc. to show value of numbers and teach 2-digit addition Money - Name of coin, value, identify what's on the coin, adding them together, words problems related to coins Time - Numbers on clock, hour and minute hand, telling time to hour and 1/2 hour, analog and digital clock Graphing - using pictographs to fill in, and analyze information through different types of graphs Geometry - 2D basic shapes, 3D shapes, composite shapes, introducing fractions/whole, 1/2, 1/4 Measurement - English & Metric basic introduction to ways we measure, tools we use to measure and examples of how we measure - inch, centimeter, foot, yard, ounce, pound, liter, ton, cup, pint, half gallon, gallon Integrated are songs, games, and lots of laughs. I've worked with this age group for years so I'm able to keep them on task, re-direct when needed but connect with them so much they BEG for more time and more classes. Kids get opportunities to participate, discuss ideas and possible solutions in order to solve problems. Worksheets provided and need to be printed. This helps keep them focused without needing a lot of help at home. This class does move faster than "average" but all kids find success and learn a lot. Class time: 1) Calendar 2) Mini-Lessons with Worksheet 3) Skip-counting, Math Facts or Critical Thinking 4) Math games to reinforce skills in a nonthreatening, fun manner 5) Sharing time - We end every session with sharing. This is a great way to connect with other students and socialize, talk and explain to a group of kids.

Parent Reviews/Comments:
This class is perfect. It is the first-class we’ve taken at Outschool where I felt like the teacher was a real school teacher. Her lessons are just enough repetition to be good for memorization but not to become boring. My daughter looks forward to her class every day.
You are awesome. My son is learning so much from you. You devote tons of time.
I am so blessed to find this class!
By the way, you are an amazing teacher. This is our first Outschool class where I feel like a real teacher is teaching the class. I appreciate all your patience and steadfastness to such young children. My mom was a teacher of middle school for 35 years so I can spot the good ones. :)
Very good class. Encourages participation. Everyone gets a turn to speak often.
