Class Experience

US Grade 1
I am no longer teaching this class. If you are interested in a class teaching the same skills sign up for my new class "I Fly, You Fly, We All Fly With UFLI Phonics 1" https://outschool.com/classes/9549f718-76b2-481b-bf01-b692934cb5cd/schedule

In this ongoing class, each week we will learn a new phonics rule each week. These are skills typically taught in first grade. On day one, we will practice making the sounds in isolation, blending with them into words, complete a word sort, and then play a game with our new words. On day two, we will practice with additional blending using word families, play a game, and read a book. The materials used in the class will require some adult assistance to prepare before class. In addition, students will be given materials to practice the sounds at home. This includes exclusive access to my RAZkids classroom with tons of books and additional materials.

This class is for beginning readers who know their consonant and short vowel sounds, some blends/digraphs, and the silent e rule. They are able to use these rules to blend CVC and CVCe and read these words. Parents should be nearby to help with any technology issues but do not necessarily need to sit with their child. Of course, parents are welcome to sit off camera with their learner if they wish or their child needs additional support. Below are the sounds studied in each unit:
Learning Goals
Students will hear the new sound in words.
Students will identify the new sound in written words.
Students will practice blending sounds in words to read them.
Students will sort words by different sounds and/or spellings.
Students will play a game to practice reading the new words.
Students will participate in reading a decodable reader using new sounds.
