Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
A skeleton wanders around an arts and crafts store looking for...
A girl with a secret power wakes up one day inside of a crumbling CASTLE instead of in her own bed...
A sad ghost lives in the fridge and only wants one thing...
A witch gives a cat a special recipe that can save the world...

This class is designed to help kids:
- become comfortable with creative writing (and/or drawing, if the learner wishes)
- increase their confidence in expressing their imaginative ideas on the page
- experience sharing their work with their peers
- develop listening and appreciative feedback skills
- become familiar with the basics of elements of literature

After a quick rundown of this week's topic, learners will choose from three creative writing prompts then create a story (using any combination of drawing or writing they wish) for 20-30 minutes. I will provide a basic checklist on the screen to help them stay on track, and will support them as much as needed during this independent time. We will then share our creations with each other and give each other appreciative feedback.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Learners will be asked to not include violence, gore, or excessively upsetting content in their stories. Nonetheless, it is expected that learners will be creating and sharing with each other "scary" stories.
Supply List
Handouts may be occasionally posted in the online classroom.

Learners will be invited to write and/or draw their story, so this means:

- If the learner wants to DRAW as part of this class, they will need paper, and something to draw with, preferably coloured pencils or markers.

- If the learner wants to WRITE as part of this class, they will need paper, pen/pencil, or a device they already know how to use for the purpose of word processing.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
