Intermediate Level
This ongoing class will review 3rd grade standards over a 17 week period. I have structured this class as ongoing so students can choose to attend a class dealing with their choice of topics. You are free to come and go as desired. Each class will consist of these features: * Greeting and getting to know you question to foster student connections *Warm-ups: Number Talks to get those brains thinking and calculating *Main Lesson: I teach using engaging slides and activities, modeling concepts with real items where possible to make better connections to prior knowledge and make the lesson apply to student's lives *Practice Time: Students will have time to practice our focus concept while I assist and provide support *Individual Practice: Students will have the opportunity to practice independently and I will provide directed feedback to ensure students understand the concept taught * Group game to practice what we have learned in that session. This also helps me assess the depth of student understanding. In order to be sure each student receives individual attention and support, I keep the class sizes on the smaller size, with no more than 5 students per session. I find this helps students interact on a more personal level as well. The topics we will cover are as follows: Week 1: (Week of Jan 6th) Place Value within 1000 Week 2: (Week of Jan 13th) Addition within 1000, with regrouping Week 3: (Week of Jan 20th) Addition and Subtraction within 1000 Week 4: (Week of Jan 27th) Addition and Subtraction with Regrouping Week 5: (Week of Feb 3) Intro to Multiplication Week 6: (Week of Feb 10) Multiplication within 100 Week 7: (Week of Feb 17) Concepts of Division Week 8: (Week of Feb 24) Multiplication and Division within 100 Week 9: (Week of Mar 3) Multiplication/Division Word Problems Week 10: (Week of Mar 10) Geometry - Shapes and Attributes Week 11: (Week of Mar 17) Intro to Fractions Week 12: (Week of Mar 24) Fractions on a Number Line Week 13: (Week of Mar 31) Equivalent Fractions/Comparing Fractions Week 14: (Week of April 7) Area Week 15: (Week of April 14) Area and Perimeter Week of April 21: NO CLASS - Spring Break Week 16: (Week of April 28) Measurement: Time/Elapsed time Week 17: (Week of May 5) Measurement: liters and ml, g and kg Cycle will begin again once these classes are complete.
