Class Experience

This ongoing weekly introductory beginners course / class to Parkour / Freerunners / Spiderman Parkourist, we’ll cover everything you need to know as a beginner, starting with the art of movement and flow. Great exercise with extra fun!  
We will cover the history and beginnings of the discipline, who did it first and the benefits of integrating it into everyday life.

I will show all the required information needed to understand the best way to perform the tricks. 
This ongoing weekly class consists of 8 lessons that rotate. You can join this class at anytime; the lessons do not go in any particular order. If the student keeps going after the 8 lessons different technics will be used on each rotation to keep the regular students excited and learning new tricks.

Week 1+2
● Parkour: What is it?
● Foundation of our training as children.
● Where parkour came from.
● Why and where do we train?
● What do we wear?
● Core skills and health benefits.

Week 3+4
● How to be a well-rounded athlete.
● DOs and DON’Ts.
● Warming up.
● Conditioning.
● Cooling down.
● Basic body positions

Week 5+6
●Jumping: Precision techniques. Rolling: Save your legs from impact.
● Different types of jump - precision, running precision, plyo, stride.
● Combining the jumps.
● How to stick a jump.

Week 7+8
● Safety roll. Why we do it.
● Combining a precision and safety roll.
● Hazards to look out for - e.g. ankle thing.

Week 9+10
● Vaults: A crash course.
● Most common vaults - speed step/vault, thief and lazy vault, dash, kong.
● Being ambidextrous (learning vaults on both sides).
● Explosive power.
● Hazards to look out for - e.g. wrist pain.

Week 11+12
●Flow: Combining everything you know.
● Combining precisions with vaults - e.g. plyo to speed step.
● How to connect vaults in a line.
● The importance of steps.
● Creating a line.
● Speed and creativity.

Week 13+14
●Handstand techniques.
● Warming up the right parts of your body.
● Theory of balance.
● Against the wall.
● Tucked handstand.
● Straddle handstand.
● Full handstand demo.

Week 15+16
● Risk Assessment: Training in public.
● Why it can be dangerous to train in public.
● Private property and getting kicked off.
● Parkour parks.
● Indoor gyms.
● Checking your surfaces.
● Dealing with a common basic injury
● Training responsibly.

No experience is needed by the student to take these classes. 

Please note:

*For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but whose budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower income. Please message me with the course, dates, and times you are interested in to learn more about the discounts I might be able to offer.  

*Please be aware I try to teach all of my classes, to at least 3 students as I feel it provides a better teaching and learning experience. If the minimum amount of students is not reached 24 hours before the start of the course, students will be moved to the next available section at a similar time.

Parental Guidance
This class is for beginners and will not involve any topics or tricks that could be considered dangerous. This is a beginners class showing the core skills. Prior to starting this class there’s a number of precautionary steps the students will need to take to exercise safety. Every student will make sure to wear trainers with a full rubber outsole, for maximum grip, to avoid slips. The training space should be open and unobstructed, free of trip hazards and sharp corners. If using an outdoor space, e.g. garden, make sure the ground is free of debris and isn’t slippery. Every student is advised to bring a water bottle, as we will be performing exercise. At the start of every class, the teacher will go through a full warm up and stretch to avoid any injuries. We strongly advise that students are supervised by their parent(s). Potential injury that can occur if not properly supervised - ankle sprain, bruises, wrist sprain, dehydration.

This class is taught by Jo who has been an active and athletic movement enthusiast since a very young age. Jo started training parkour at 17 and coaching at 21. He has taught people from the age of 4 all the way to 60, as part of The Urban Arts Academy in Brighton, where he was many a student’s favourite! 
In the last 10 years he also performed in the street, on set for TV and at movie premieres, both in costume (Spider-Man) and as a stunt man. He has competed in speed, skill and freestyle competitions nationwide. A three-time World Chase Tag Champion (Team Marrero Gang), having competed in various events UK-wide and as far as Tokyo.
