Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Welcome to the "Encyclopedia Knowledge Research Fact Checking and Social" weekly 16-week (semester) ongoing class, which focuses on some of the most interesting topics in the Encyclopedia, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating while socialising with likeminded peers. I think making learning enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. Each class will cover a standalone topic and students can join or leave anytime. No previous experience necessary.

During this 16-week (semester) class, students will read & discuss topics randomly selected from the encyclopaedia by the attending students of that class and discover how these topics and facts connect people around the world. In this weekly ongoing class / camp, we will talk and research different topics that are randomly selected from the Encyclopedia at the start of each class. We will then research and discuss the randomly selected topic, how it works and focus specifically on understanding and discussing what it means to us and why its important we should know about it.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬
I use PowerPoint presentations for the start of my classes to introduce a new topic, but we will spend more time focusing in on specific topics for discussion than I would in my my usual lecture style presentation for my one off classes. I use PowerPoint to start with so I can mix text and multimedia and make the class more interesting. This class will be run using an "intro-discussion-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. Then we will pause to discuss what we have learnt and take questions and make sure everyone is keeping up. I will ask questions to test what the students have learnt and ask leading questions to see if they can make new connections. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material, and then pause for discussion after that one too.

This series can be taken on its own or can be combined with any of my one-off classes. Although the ongoing classes will go into more detail and will cover more than in the one-off classes so there is no need to do both if you are doing the ongoing class. Please see my other class listings for more lessons!

*Please be aware I try to teach all of my classes, to at least 3 students as I feel it provides a better teaching and learning experience. If the minimum amount of students is not reached 24 hours before the start of the course, students will be moved to the next available section at a similar time.

*Once a learner has been verified per OS policy, this is a camera optional class.

*For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but their budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower income. Please message me with the course, dates and times you are interested in to learn more about the discounts I might be able to offer.
