Class Experience

Learning will be through short lecture segments with teacher-guided discussion composing the bulk of the class. The core of the class is presenting the problem of survival on a deserted island to students, who will figure out the steps they need to take to survive, and through that learn the basic principles of economics. This is a great first step in understanding history and society, and very helpful towards getting the most out of my history classes. The entire class is designed to be completed in a single week.
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic economic concepts, including but not limited to:
- Costs, including opportunity and transaction
- Savings and capital
- Profit and loss
- Diminishing returns
- Marginal utility
- Specialization and comparative advantage
- Supply and demand
- Externalities
