In this one-time class, we will make a real miniature gingerbread house! With only a few common materials, we will construct and decorate our own edible holiday decorations. First, we will observe and discuss ideas for inspiration. Next, we will begin to secure the walls and roof of the house to the base structure. This lesson provides several positive learning outcomes. By creating a unique gingerbread house, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of forms and architecture in our world around us. Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills. Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion. Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing, and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create.
