Assessment
Informal assessments are conducted throughout each meeting to determine student understanding as we progress. A written report of the student's progress may be requested by parents periodically to determine whether any adjustments need to be made to the instruction they are receiving.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
These are ongoing private tutoring sessions taught by a former secondary math teacher with 6 years of experience teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and ACT Math in the classroom. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education along with my teaching license in Secondary Education in Mathematics. Each session will be tailored to the learner's needs. A range of topics may be covered depending upon each learner. Available levels of math I tutor include 6th-8th grade (middle school) math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. Topics within these levels may include but are not limited to: -Number Sense and Theory -Geometric Measurement -Algebra -Probability -Trigonometric Ratios. I ask that the topic of review or help be provided 2 days before the class's meet time in order for me to prepare the necessary materials for your learner. Each class will begin with addressing the topic the learner is currently in need of help. Then, it will follow with assessing the student's current level of understanding through some quick questions. This will let me know where any misconceptions might be occurring. Sessions may include scaffolded practice problems through notes or a review of entire topics. I teach by asking many questions to the learner to correctly diagnose where trouble might be occurring. This way, we can pinpoint the area of confusion and deal with it directly! I believe if learners gain confidence in the areas they need help with, they can better conquer difficult topics in the future. This may be accomplished through a variety of techniques including direct instruction, socratic questioning, investigative learning, and math modeling in the real world. If you would like to request a one time class in order to see if this ongoing class would be a good fit for your child, please reach out and I will work with you to create a session. If you are interested in this ongoing class but do not see an available time, please contact me (with your time zone) and some possible meeting times so we may schedule something that works for you.
Learning Goals
Students will improve or expound on their understanding of the topic requested beforehand and presented during the tutoring session.
