Class Experience

Is your learner obsessed with making things out of pipe cleaners? I am, too! I've taught dozens of pipe cleaner art classes and love sharing my ideas, advice, and tips with younger artists. In this 30-minute, private (one-on-one) class, we can focus on whatever your learner is most interested in creating!

Any level of experience is fine: Interested in pipe cleaners but haven't made anything yet? That's okay! Super experienced and looking to make something more difficult? That's awesome, too! Since this is a private class, I can tailor my teaching to your learner's level.

The number of projects we can complete in 30 minutes will depend on your learner's previous experience working with pipe cleaners, as well as the complexity of the projects chosen. Usually, we should be able to create between one and three pieces. If they’d like to make more things or something very advanced, I’d suggest enrolling in the one-hour class instead: https://outschool.com/classes/one-on-one-pipe-cleaner-art-60-minute-class-4ZnwTvHs

I do ask that you message me or post in the classroom before class to let me know what your learner is interested in focusing on. This way, I can be prepared to meet your learner’s individual needs, and I can better teach and guide them to successfully create what they want!

Below is a suggested list of projects, roughly organized by complexity/experience level. We can make other things, but I have a lot of experience creating what's listed here, so I can guarantee a great experience! If your learner wants to make something I don't have practice with, we might be experimenting more than actually creating (which is definitely fun in its own way!).

BEGINNER/EASY ANIMALS (from easiest to a bit more difficult):
- Snakes
- Caterpillars
- Butterflies
- Spiders / Octopi (similar technique)
- Frogs
- Bunnies (& carrots for them to munch on!)
- Birds
BEGINNER/EASY OTHER CREATIONS:
- Glasses
- Rainbows
- Hyacinths
- Lollipops
- Cotton Candy

INTERMEDIATE ANIMALS:
- Bees
- Snails
- Fish
- Chameleons
INTERMEDIATE OTHER:
- People & Clothes
- Tacos
- Six-Petal Flowers
- Rose Rings (that you can wear!)

***Of the following advanced projects, to ensure we are not rushed, only ONE can be completed in 30 minutes. I would also not suggest choosing anything advanced if your learner doesn’t have much experience working with pipe cleaners.***

ADVANCED ANIMALS:
- Horses &/or Giraffes
- Dogs &/or Cats (and accessories--harness, bed, bone/other toys, etc.!)
- Dinosaurs: Brachiosaurus or T-Rex
- Turtles
- Pandas
ADVANCED OTHER:
- Woven Baskets (We can also weave starfish!)

Classroom Expectations:
I don’t have a big list of rules for conduct in my classroom. Ideally, we all want to learn and work together to make that happen. Mainly, I ask for two things: 1) Be respectful to the teacher and other classmates; and 2) Have fun!

* In each of my classes, I strive to ensure an affirming environment for LGBTQIAP2S+ and neurodiverse students. If you have any other questions, please reach out to me! *

My original classes, “It’s Pipe Cleaner Art Time!” and the ongoing club, were created from a lot of passion and nostalgia. When I was a kid, one of my favorite past-times was making fun things out of pipe cleaners. I love to share this joy with students, while also improving their fine motor skills and creative expression. I now have taught dozens (if not hundreds!) of pipe cleaner art classes and I'm excited to share my expertise with your learner. :)
