Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Does your child need extra support in mathematics? Come to math tutoring! During this one time, one-on-one class, I will work with your child in the area of mathematics, in an area that they need support with. I am able to work with students with given assignments that they need to complete or can work on a math topic that they need extra support in. Preferably, but not needed, parents should communicate the topic 24 hours before class begins.

During class, we will introduce ourselves and chat. These first few minutes are to build a repertoire with the child. Then, we will get to work! I use a document camera during instruction. This ensures that your child is able to clearly see the work that we are doing. My tutoring sessions will include modeling of the topic/skill, which may include written instructions for the given skill. Then, we will work on math examples together or independently with support when needed. If you have sent me a photo or pdf of the assignment, I will have that printed out and your child and I will work on the skill together. If not, I will have created some math examples for us to work on. If we are working on a predetermined skill, I will have an activity for the end of the tutoring session, such as math bump, bingo, dominos, or match.

I am available to cover skills such as:
Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing whole numbers, improper and proper fractions, and decimals
Mental Math
Least common multiple and greatest common factor
Place value, order of operations, exponents
Comparing and ordering whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
Area and perimeter of polygons such as rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, trapezoid, and composite figures

Angles - measuring angles, determining missing angle
Data and Graphs - pictographs, line graphs, bar graphs, stem and leaf plots, line plots, mean, medium, and range
Percent, rate, ratios
Coordinate plane - graphing coordinate plane, area and perimeter of figures on the coordinate plane,
Negative numbers - add, subtract, multiply, divide
Pre-algebra skills - variables, expressions, solving 2-step equations, distributive property of multiplication in algebra
