I enjoy helping children become fluent readers. When kids can read fluently, they understand better and do well in other subjects like Science and Social Studies. It brings me great joy to help open up the world for them! However, if English is not the language spoken at home, we might need to focus more intensively. That's why I have made this class longer than my other classes.

My Teaching Style:
I use props and visual aids to help make things clear.
I follow the "I do. We do. You do." model in my lessons.

What Your Child Needs for Reading:
Your child should already know the basic sounds of letters.
Your child should be ready to put letter sounds together to make CVCe words (consonant-vowel-consonant-silent E words).

Our Weekly Schedule:
We'll start with 10 minutes of casual conversation.
Then, we'll spend 10 minutes on vocabulary.
I'll always include phonics in our discussions when it fits, and we might have 10 minutes of focused phonics lessons if needed.
I'll also work on correcting any grammar mistakes and helping with pronunciation.
During each class, we'll read a book or a poem.
I'll consider your child's interests when choosing our reading materials, and if your child has a specific book in mind, I'll do my best to get it.

I correct mistakes gently.
We'll take short breaks during class to help stay focused and for some fun!
