OG With Ms. C: Make Phonics Fun!
This class will be an intensive Phonics course that targets students with dyslexia, ADHD or other reading difficulties. The course will be highly interactive and based on the evidence-backed, effective Orton-Gillingham method.

Beginner Level
This class will follow a scope of letters and sounds using the Orton-Gillingham method. Each day, we will introduce 2 new letters or spelling patterns, practice phonological awareness, go through a review drill of letters that students already know, and practice decoding and encoding words. This class is taught in English.
Students will be able to identify the sound made by each consonant, short vowel and long vowel. Students will be able to read and write regularly spelled CVC and CCVC words. Students will be able to rapidly read and recall common sight words. Students will be able to read beginning reader texts with fluency and accuracy.
I worked for six years as an elementary school teacher and now am a Literacy and Curriculum Specialist for a charter school network. In my role, I advise the school on best practices for Literacy instruction and train teachers in best practices. I have a Masters Degree from Lesley University in Language and Literacy and completed my training with the IMSE Orton-Gillingham program.
This class is intentionally designed to support students with Dyslexia and struggling readers. This course is also ideal for Kindergarteners who are just beginning to learn their letters and sounds, or for first graders who need extra help.

1 file available upon enrollment- Paper and a pencil (Please use whatever handwriting paper your child uses at school! If this is not available, I can email you some to print. I recommend a large grip pencil for Kindergarten students.) - Some sort of sensory surface that students can trace (a fluffy pillow, a piece of sandpaper - anything with a unique texture - we will call this a "bumpy board") - A red and green writing utensil (Crayon, marker, etc.)
