Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this four time class, your child will work at their own pace with the teacher. We will go under the sea and cause some commotion in the ocean by learning all about life under the sea. The first week will focus on sharks. We will read a fiction shark story to further develop a love of literacy and to strengthen comprehension skills. Your child will draw a simple step by step shark with the teacher and discuss all of the important characteristics of a shark. In the second week, your child will listen to a riddle about a sting ray. They will draw a step by step sting ray complete with non fiction labels. In the third week, your child will listen to a short story about sea turtles. Your child will draw a step by step sea turtle complete with a detailed scute. In the last lesson, your child will listen to the story called Commotion In The Ocean and make a text to self connection and draw a step by step submarine window with ocean animals making an appearance in the window. When the four classes are completed, your child will have a shark, sting ray, sea turtle and an ocean project for everyone to admire.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.

My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕

I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.

However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.

I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.

There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!

Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
