* STEAM is an educational approach that incorporates the arts into the more familiar STEM model, which includes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In each session of this multi-day class, students will learn facts about an ocean animal and then write a poem OR create a piece of art about the creature of the day. This 50-minute class will involve a Google Slide presentation that contains interesting information that will inspire whole group discussions, laughter, friendship, and brainstorming conversations. Students will learn basic facts about each animal like what it eats, who its predators are, and what its family life is like. We will also talk about the little-known tidbits of information about each creature. With teacher guidance and modeling, students will use their creativity to write a poem based on an example the teacher gives OR make a drawing based on the ocean animal-of-the-day. At the end of class, students will be given the opportunity to share their artwork or recite their poem in a "loud and proud" voice. My goal is to build a welcoming, engaging, and educational community of learners. Teacher expertise and credentials
Nevada Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College
I was a public school classroom teacher (kindergarten-4th grade and gifted education) for over thirty years and hold a master's degree in Integrating the Arts Into the Curriculum. This STEAM class integrates science, art, and poetry. When my children were young I owned a small tutoring business and specialized in kindergarten through third-grade small group enrichment, literacy interventions, summer camps, and the arts.
Now that I'm a teacher on the Outschool platform, I enjoy designing and teaching classes that integrate science and the arts. My teaching style is positive, low-key, and calm and I try my best to make sure all of my students get whatever they need in order to be successful. I strive to instill confidence in my learners while they have fun learning about animals.
