Oboe Reed Making Camp - Learn How to Make Your Own Oboe Reeds

This 4-day camp is perfect for learners interested in making their own oboe reeds. In order to get the most out of this class, students should have at least 1 year of experience playing the oboe. They should also have a reed making kit, and feel comfortable using the tools in the kit, including a reed knife. Each day we'll work on a new step in the reed making process. 4 lessons//1 Week
Week 1Lesson 1Introduction and Tying a ReedWe'll go over each tool we'll be using, what it's used for, and how to use it. We'll also go over the parts of the reed, how each part contributes to our overall sound, and the measurements we'll be using for each. We'll then go through how to tie a reed.Lesson 2Tying a Reed (continued) and Rough ScrapingWe'll start with any questions about tying, and then go on to the next step of rough scraping the reed.Lesson 3Rough Scraping (continued) and Finishing a ReedWe'll start with any questions or concerns about the previous steps. We'll then clip open the reed and go through the steps needed to be able to play on the reed.Lesson 4ReviewDuring this class, I'll repeat any of the steps requested and answer any questions. I'll also go around the class and double check each student's progress. Time permitting, we'll also go over sharpening the reed knife.
This class is taught in English.

Students will be using a sharp knife throughout the class. Parent should assess their student's readiness to handle sharp objects before joining the class. Parents may wish to be available during class to assist their student while using those objects.
