Class Experience

In this weekly ongoing class, we will learn yoga poses and mindfulness techniques following a different class theme each week.

Yoga is a great way to stay fit and healthy while building physical strength and emotional resilience. Children's yoga is different from an adult yoga class. Yoga poses will be presented in a fun and interactive way, through games, songs and imaginative stories.

Each week, the class will be focused around a theme with yoga poses which match the theme, woven into a story. For example, a story based around the children in the class going to the beach, or on a dinosaur hunt, or on other adventures, using their imaginations, thinking about what they could see or hear, gaining their input and building on their responses, creating the story together.

The order of the class will run something like this:
The class will start with a brief introduction to myself and what yoga is, and an opportunity for children to introduce themselves. This will be followed by a breathing technique and a warm up, then a yoga game. We may then tell a story with linked movement and yoga poses. We will end the class with a short story-based relaxation or visualisation, written by me.

Classes may incorporate:
Games, imagination, stories, singing, art, learning about animals & nature, caring for our planet, simple maths & literacy, our emotions, thinking about others, taking turns, listening skills.

This class is currently running in two sections, one on Mondays, one on Tuesdays. You can enrol on one, or both. The Tuesday class will be the same theme as the Monday class in the same week.

Class themes will be as follows:

- Monday 14th/ Tuesday 15th November: In the Garden
- Monday 21st/Tuesday 22nd November: In the Forest
- Monday 28th/Tuesday 29th November: Endangered Animals
- Monday 5th/Tuesday 6th December: Under the Sea

There will be no class the week of the 26th December 2022 and the week of the 2nd January 2023.

Future themes will be added nearer the time. I tend to repeat themes after a few weeks, as I have found the children really enjoy the repetition and being able to remember what comes next. They get excited about a familiar theme and feel a great sense of achievement from knowing what's coming next and getting into a pose before I've demonstrated it.

Learners will need a clear space in which to move their whole body.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Parental Guidance
Please let your child know that everyone's body is different. I will offer a variety of options for each pose. However, if any yoga pose feels uncomfortable or too hard, they can come out of it at any time. If they feel pain, they should stop that pose immediately. Yoga is about having fun and helping our bodies to get strong, so we should never force our body into any pose. Our bodies also feel different on any given day, so a pose may be more or less difficult and feel different on different days. It is important to look after our bodies. If your child wishes to stop and rest at any time, they should feel free to do so. I also suggest they have a bottle of water nearby to sip during class, to stay hydrated. I will stop briefly between some sections of the class, so they have a chance to drink. Yoga is a physical exercise. All exercise incorporates a possible risk of injury, most likely through falling. Please ensure that your child has enough clear space to be able to move and do actions and yoga poses without being impeded by furniture, toys or other items. We will not practice advanced poses which may strain the neck or spine such as headstands or extreme back bends. The well-being and safety of your child is my highest priority.
Supply List
Please bring a piece of paper or notebook and some drawing pencils to class.
If you have a yoga mat, you may wish to use this, but it is not necessary.
Please have a drink of water nearby to sip during class to keep hydrated.
Children will need to wear comfortable loose or stretchy clothing, such as a t-shirt and stretchy leggings or jogging trousers. Children will need to have bare feet, or wear socks with grip on the soles to prevent slipping.
Children will need a clear space in which to move their whole body.
Many of our classes will incorporate animals within the theme. If your child has a favourite toy animal they would like to join the class, they are welcome to bring them along. We will incorporate them into our introductions and our final relaxation.
If your child finds it difficult to keep their eyes closed (during our final relaxation), they may find a small scarf or bandana (or small soft toy) helpful to place over their eyes. If you have an eye pillow, this would also be ideal.
