Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this one time class, we will use number bonds to help us solve and complete fact families within 20.

Students will be encouraged to talk how they solved the problem and share their answers.

We will begin class with introductions. Students will say their name and something about themselves.
I will show students blocks and students will try to figure out how many of the blocks I have taken away. We will talk about the whole number and the parts. I will show students what a number bond looks like and discuss part and whole on the number bond. We will discuss Part +Part= Whole and Whole - Part = Part. We will discuss how the parts and trade places because they are both parts. I will show this by have 3 in one hand and 7 in one hand. Students will solve that those two parts make 10. I will then switch the 3 and the 7. Students will again see that it will still equal 10. We will talk about how the answer stays the same.

We will then work together to look at a completed number bond and use those numbers to complete a fact family. We will do a few problems together and then students will get to solve the fact families on their own. Students will be able to ask questions if they need help.

Students will then use the printable worksheet to make their own number bond and complete the fact family.
