Class Experience

Matilda is a book about being brave even when we are really small and about finding our place in life. Roald Dahl has a certain way of describing good and evil. He often give his less kind characters certain attributes. In his book Matilda this is in full display. Some characters are sweet and loving some are angry, rude and close to frightening.

For this class we will discuss;

The character of Matilda (her intelligence, her need to seek revenge and of course her dreams)

Matilda's family and what message the parents are sending to their children.

Matilda's school including Mrs.Honey and Trunchball

We will also discuss magic and how it unfolds in the book.

We will also study Roald Dahl's choice of words when he describes his characters including their name.

For the first class the student should read up to the chapter called Mrs. Honey.

About a week before the first class I will send questions to get the student to think and deeper comprehend the book.

The student need to be able to read the book and understand it well enough to discuss it.

Each class will range between 30 and 45 minutes depending on the class size.
