This one-time, 50 minute class will begin with an introduction to Norse culture (modern day Scandinavia, especially Norway), including the role of mythology in their society. Then, we'll overview the iconic gods, goddesses, and stories of Nose mythology, including Thor, Loki, the Valkyrie, and Ragnarok. I studied Ancient Greek religion at Georgetown and currently teach a popular and well-reviewed class on Greek and Roman Mythology in Popular Culture. I'm also a huge fan of the modern pop culture versions of Norse Mythology, especially Game of Thrones, Marvel's Avengers, and the Lord of the Rings. I'm excited to share my knowledge and love of Norse culture and mythology with you!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Clips from PG-13 movies will be shown, but will be pre-screened by the instructor to be age-appropriate for the class (no gratuitous violence, sexuality, profanity, etc)
