Kahoot!Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 2
***this is a FLEX course*** In this five week course, students will start by reviewing the alphabet along with sound and letter recognition. Then, each of the next four weeks will focus on a different theme to explore nonsense words. Week #1: ABC song, review Alphabet chart, match beginning sound pictures to letters - Popsicle sort -, beginning sound letter clip chart, and an Alphabet book read aloud. Students will collaborate on an interactive google slides to match beginning sound pictures to letters. In the classroom forum, students will work together to complete Alphabet review cards. There will be a Kahoot! played towards the end of the week among the whole class to review letter sounds and names! Week #2: preview an example of a monthly nonsense check/assessment, sort nonsense words and real words (Egg sort), build nonsense/real words with plastic eggs. Roll It! game (please consider printing this sheet out so your students can follow along using a dice and coloring supplies). Students will be able to play the Roll it! game and manipulate words with their peers on an interactive google slides sheet. Students will work on an interactive google slides presentation to practice egg-themed nonsense word sorts and practice activities. On the classroom forum, students will try to challenge their peers by posting real and nonsense words, their peers will have to decide what kind of word it is. Week #3: sort nonsense and real worlds (sand bucket sort), add magnetic letters to word endings to create nonsense/real words, Dab it! game (please consider printing this sheet out so your students can follow along using a BINGO dabber, crayon, marker, etc). Students will work on an interactive google slides presentation to practice beach-themed nonsense word sorts and practice activities. On the classroom forum, students will try to challenge their peers by posting real and nonsense words, their peers will have to decide what kind of word it is. Week #4: sort nonsense and real words (bubblegum sort), add spoon with beginning letter written on it to ending chunks to make nonsense/real words, play a version of Connect Four, and build words by rolling paper dice that we're going to make. Students will also compete in a Kahoot! game to assess what they have learned so far in the course. Students will work on an interactive google slides presentation to practice candy-themed nonsense word sorts and practice activities. On the classroom forum, students will try to challenge their peers by posting real and nonsense words, their peers will have to decide what kind of word it is. Week #5: sort nonsense and real words (heart sort), add magnetic letters to ending chunks to create real/nonsense words, work on the monthly nonsense word fluency check paper (please consider printing this practice sheet out!). Students will complete an ice cream building worksheet and choose from a variety of fun activities/worksheets for the week. Students will work on an interactive google slides presentation to practice heart-themed nonsense word sorts and practice activities. On the classroom forum, students will try to challenge their peers by posting real and nonsense words, their peers will have to decide what kind of word it is. - Included in this course will be printable(s) for each day that will expand your student's learning. These sheets are not mandatory but they are highly suggested! Each day will have a themed-related sort sheet for the nonsense/real word sort that you may substitute with a plain piece of paper. - Throughout this class, students will engage with their peers through the use of Kahoots! and class wide games like Jeopardy! and BINGO. Nearpod will also be utilized to demonstrate what students have learned, engage in virtual field trips, and allow for classmate interaction. - Students will also post their completed crafts and assignments for their classmates to comment on. Students will follow along with various crafts such as coloring pages, multimedia crafts, informative diagrams, cut and paste crafts, and so much more! We will engage in activities such as interactive google presentations, mini info books, and super exciting experiments! - Also shared in the classroom will be exciting videos for students to watch and learn from, guided questions will be attached to each video. - Anchor charts will be used as visuals.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will be asked to follow links to watch YouTube videos. They may need an adult account to watch videos that may be blocked under the child accounts. Students may follow links to watch presentations on Canva, this will not require a login.
Students will need to create a guest account and nickname for Kahoot! and Nearpod. They will also need a class code.
Students will follow a shared link to a google slides presentation. No login is required.

I have given DIBELS assessments to Kindergartners and 1st-graders as well as leading test prep. small-groups for the DIBELS. I have worked continuously with K-1st graders on improving upon their nonsense words fluency. I know what information the students are tested on and how they are tested, and I know what students struggle with the most through my professional experience.
