Upon enrollment students will receive materials to explore "The Raven" independently. We will then meet to discuss, analyze, and dramatically interpret the poem together.
Class experience
When a student enrolls for the course, I will share with them a Youtube playlist I've created by exploring dozens of video resources for quality interpretations and video analyses of Poe's "The Raven" that are appropriate for young people. It is a 40 minute playlist of six videos. that is entirely optional for participation in the class. Students who are interested in the topic may enjoy preparing for the discussion. The first video is a slightly edited cartoon version that makes the plot...
1) Learners will have an improved understanding of the meaning of Poe's "The Raven." 2) Learners will utilize and enhance their existing language analysis skills to create a more dramatic interpretation of the text. 3) Learners will be able to more confidently perform some portion of the text after encouragement and exploration.
When I was in 9th grade, I spent the last 20 minutes before I went to sleep every night memorizing Poe's "The Raven" in its entirety. When I went on to act in and direct numerous productions over the following decades, I started using the piece with classes to explore diction, articulation, text research, literary devices, and vocal expression. It is a guaranteed good time and great learning opportunity.
2 files available upon enrollmentAs mentioned above, I will provide a PDF of the poem, a PDF of a crossword, and a Youtube playlist of 6 videos totally 40 minutes. The poem will be the only resource students will definitely wish to consult, but I will provide it on the screen as well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
