Description
Class Experience
In this weekly class, we will discuss different topics that build emotional intelligence. We will learn about the brain and how to deal with strong feelings that make us want to "flip our lid". Each day we will add to our knowledge bank and build EQ (Emotional Intelligence) skills that will help us build trust, strengthen friendships, and enable a growth mindset. Each day, we will have an organized lecture with PowerPoint lesson. Some days, we will do more discussion and incorporate more...
This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their understanding of feelings and how to label them. They will practice mindfulness techniques and learn to calm themselves before they flip their lid. Each day, students will add to their emotional intelligence tool box. Students do best if they are comfortable sharing in a large group, but it is never required.
I am offering this class as a teen version of the adult class I am teaching for my business, SOUND Relationships. I believe that learning life skills is the number one way to improve relationships and build self-esteem. I'm a certified teacher and have training in the Gottman Method. I have personally taken the theories Gottman applies to couples and made my own curriculum that teaches children and parents valuable skills to strengthen their families. I have used these concepts in my own family and in my marriage of 24 years. They work!
Always try to practice your skills between classes. Take notes and read handouts. Some days we will work on our comic strips outside of class.
5 files available upon enrollmentPrintable handouts will be given each class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will notice their own progress as they feel more in control of their response to stress and frustration.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Some students may choose to share scenarios that they relate to--such as situations that make them want to flip their lid. Sharing personal examples is purely optional as we can create fictional scenarios to problem-solve. This class does not provide medical advice or counseling. We stick to well-researched topics and teach from a science based perspective. Communication and emotion coaching methods based on the research of John Gottman. Mindset and neuroscience lessons based on the work of Carol Dweck and her Brainology course.
