What's included

30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 3 - 5
In this ongoing class we will meet weekly to discuss and debate epic random Nintendo character battles. Each week we will go through multiple battles and each student will have the opportunity to share the reasons they believe a particular character would win. Character battles will be randomly drawn from our battle wheel so they could range from the totally insane match-up of Mario vs. Pikachu to something more expected like Kirby vs. King Dedede. The class will feature characters from the most popular Nintendo games including Mario, Pokémon, Kirby, Legend of Zelda, Minecraft etc. and I am always open to characters that students want to see for the next class! Each battle round will also allow for an opportunity to collectively research characters and build knowledge so everyone feels like they can contribute. The class will be lighthearted, respectful and a space where everyone feels heard and has fun! The battles are not predetermined and they will be decided randomly during class each week! Week of June 8th: Random Nintendo battles decided by the Battle Wheel Week of June 15th: Random Nintendo battles decided by the Battle Wheel Week of June 22nd: Random Nintendo battles decided by the Battle Wheel Week of June 29th: Random Nintendo battles decided by the Battle Wheel
Learning Goals
Students will learn to listen and weigh various arguments as well as learn to develop their own argument in hopes of swaying their fellow classmates. They will learn how to be respectful while potentially disagreeing with someone else's reasoning.

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, two cats and puppy! I love online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
