Over the course of 4 weeks, students will learn the fundamentals of Salsa Shines (salsa dance performed as individual). I teach Salsa in the NY style. This includes technique, footwork, dance movements, and individual styling tips. Class will begin with a dynamic warm up that includes isolations and simple stretches to prepare the body to dance and lay the groundwork for rhythm-based movement. Next, we will work on technique and different Salsa steps. Then, we will work on a piece of fun, high-energy choreography. Each week we will build on the previous class's choreography so that by the end of the course students will have a full phrase to perform! Each class will also contain brief information about the history of Salsa dance and music, so students are not just learning steps but also the context from which it is based. This is a physical activity, so make sure your child has enough space to safely dance and wears comfortable clothes. For the warm-up, students will be instructed to follow along with me as I demonstrate and describe the movements, but technique and choreography will be taught piece by piece, broken-down so that it can be learned and there will be frequent opportunities for questions.
