US Grade 3 - 6
This is a course to learn all things trees! Each class will start with a lesson so we can learn about how the trees grow and survive and what makes them unique. Each week we will have a 'Tree of the Week.' We will discuss the characteristics of the tree and it's benefits on the landscape. Then we will be trekking though the woods and we will be discussing what we see. Your learners don't have to be trekking in the woods, but they are welcome to share if they are. In the woods I will discuss the different tree and shrub species present. We will talk about ways to differentiate species from each other. We will talk about the wildlife benefits that trees have. We will also discuss the wildlife or other cool things from Mother Nature that we find on our trip. There will be a worksheet or activity each week to go along with the lesson. See the syllabus for the class topics each week.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from The Ohio State University
I grew up exploring the outdoors in a rural town. These experiences led me down my career path. I have a bachelor's degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management. During college and since graduation I have worked in this field. Everyday I am teaching people about wildlife and habitat manipulation so they can attract species to their properties. Over the last 14 years I have taught people of all ages (prek ages through giving wildlife programs at assisted living centers). Most of the time I am teaching about trees and wildflowers and wildlife to adults. Each year though I give multiple different programs for kids of all ages for school programs, church groups, and summer camps. I love getting kids outside and teaching them about the fascinating things that are found in nature!
