US Grade 6 - 9
Calling all nature lovers and explorers! Join us during our once-a-week class where we will explore different nature study topics, from plants to animals, and occasionally even some earth science topics that relate to our world! Each week we will explore our topic through science, geography, and language arts. While we are discussing and learning together learners are encouraged to work on something creative with our topic as inspiration. This could be a drawing, a painting, fiber work, clay work, a brick building, or any other form you may be interested in creating with! Toward the end of our session, learners will have the opportunity to share their creations with other learners. If your learner hasn’t completed their creation by the end of our time that’s not a problem! Once finished they can post it into the classroom to share with everyone. Each class will have some examples of drawings, paintings, and photographs to inspire. In addition, I will share my nature journal entry on the weekly topic as another form of inspiration. However, learners are free to create whatever they wish, and creation is optional for those that may just want to explore that day. Each class will include some directed exploration, however, learners will be encouraged to discuss and share their knowledge and experience with the weekly topic as well. Other Details
Supply List
Learners will need whatever supplies they have chosen to use for their creations, and a safe space to create in while in class. However, I recommend having at least some paper and pencils available. I will be sharing my nature journal entries. If the learners would like to create a journal from this class, or just keep all their creations in one place, I use a 7 x 10-inch mixed media spiral-bound notebook. While I may occasionally add paints to my notebook, I primarily use a combination of #2 pencils and colored pencils.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

My name is Ms. Jena and I am a 2nd generation homeschooling mom to 4 children. I have a Bachelor’s in Educational Studies and have taught within the dance and homeschool communities for over 25 years. My passion for nature began at a young age exploring the farm and woods of my childhood home. It has continued throughout my life - one of my favorite vacation destinations is a state or national park for some hiking, camping, and nature photography! This love has allowed me to deep dive into exploration and study with my own children from their pre-school level nature explorations to their high school level oceanography interests. Nature has also been a wonderful place for me to explore my visual arts passion and I love learning more about our natural world as I photograph it!
