This nature drawing camp teaches students how to recognize 3 hardy bird species that overwinter in Canada and the Northern United States: the Black-Capped Chickadee, White-Breasted Nuthatch, and Great Horned Owl. Students learn where to find each bird, how to identify it by sign and sound, and other interesting facts through a short interactive presentation. Then, we work step by step together to draw a detailed bird. Students are encouraged to observe shapes, colors and textures from a photo. Then, we'll block out basic shapes and add in more realistic details. In the final step, we'll add color! I guide students through the drawing process step by step, but students are also welcome to apply their own style or composition details. We'll finish the drawing steps together n class and some students may finish the coloring too. Some students may continue their coloring and final touches after class. I share the photo we use for our drawing so students can continue to use it as reference after class if needed.
