35 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This is a *safe place* for students to come and have fun while testing their Pokémon knowledge. You do NOT need to be a Pokémon expert to join this class. This is a teamwork-driven, judgement-free, encouraging environment that welcomes all levels of experience. Whether you are just beginning to learn about Pokémon, or you have been playing the game for a long time, you are welcomed and encouraged to join! In this one-time course, students will participate in a multiple-choice style trivia game about Pokémon. We will begin class with a 'student spotlight' where each student will get a chance to voluntarily introduce themselves and share about their favorite Pokémon character. Next, students will log in to the "Kahoot" app using a second device (phone, tablet, second computer, etc.) in order to access our trivia game. Students will be provided with an individual 'game code' that will securely log them into our classroom competition. Once every student is logged into the game, I will begin the game and read each question and answer choice out loud to all students at once. As I read, students will also be able to view the question on their computers via the 'shared screen' Zoom setting. Students will use their second device in order to click on the correct answer. Name that Pokémon! - Students will be given clues about a particular character in order to guess which one I am describing. Clues may also include pictures of Pokémon for students to name. The student with the highest number of correct answers will be crowned the ''Class Master" and will be sent a certificate at the end of class. *The last 5 minutes of class will be set aside for students to show off and discuss their Pokémon items of choice.
Learning Goals
Students will show off their Pokémon knowledge through an interactive Kahoot trivia game. Through this game, students will review the names and characteristics of various characters.

My experience as a special-education teacher has taught me that students learn best when they are engaged in a topic that interests them. Over the last 8 years, I have used Pokemon as the basis of many of my lessons which has continued to hold the interest of even my most withdrawn students. As a reward for completing academic tasks, I further engage my students in interactive trivia games that allow them a release after applying themselves in the classroom. I, myself, have become quite familiar with the world of Pokemon after having designed over 30 lessons around the game, itself, and the characters within the game. I personally designed the Kahoot trivia game that will be used for this Outschool course.
