Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this course, we will read a different myth from Greek and Roman mythology each class; these stories will be centered around a different hero each session. For some myths we may read more than one version of the story, or discuss other stories that cross over with the subject matter and characters. We will also discuss modern depictions of the storyline or characters that we we meet in each myth. We may also look at famous paintings or statues that depict the story. We will end the course with your choice of mini project where you will get to be creative and share your work with the class! We will complete all our reading during class, so students will be asked to read out loud frequently.

Week 1: We will learn about all the Greek Gods and Goddesses and their Roman counterparts.

Weeks 2-6: Each class we will be focused on a different hero from Greek and Roman Mythology. We will discuss the characters and the story, and any modern versions of the story that are relevant.
-Week 2: Perseus and the Medusa
-Week 3:Heracles and the 12 Labors
-Week 4: Odysseus: The Odyssey
-Week 5: Achilles: The Trojan war
-Week 6: Jason and the Golden Fleece

Weeks 7-8: We will work a mini project where students will invent their own Greco-Roman hero and write a myth about their adventures! Students will either illustrate, or prepare a dramatic recitation of their myth to share with the class.

Parental Guidance
Some of the topics in Greek and Roman mythology can be scary or violent. I have experience teaching these stories to younger students, so I will always present an age appropriate version of the story to the students. Please note that the stories will contain violence, war, mythical monsters, and allusion to infidelity.
