There is no formal assessment however, students will work together to solve the riddles and games. For each one they complete they will get to travel to a new "location" on the map.

Class Experience

Hello friends of Percy Jackson! We’ve recently got a message from Rachel saying that the camp is in danger! It seems that the Boreans (those sons of the North Wind) and their sister Khione (the goddess of snow) have decided to attack Camp Half-Blood! Everything is blanketed in a thick layer of that white fluffy stuff and it’s affecting the powers of Thalia's Tree to keep monsters out!
Can you help us defeat them before the winter solstice?

During the one time, 45 minute class students will be exploring Camp Half-Blood (through Google Slides), where they choose their own path of adventure! Students will take turns directing the class to up to 24 locations on the Camp map. At each location, they will help characters found in the Percy Jackson universe or battle monsters via puzzles, quizzes, riddles, brain teasers and fun.
These activities include:
     - Defeating an army of snowmen.
     - Beating a rock demigod with christmas songs.
     - Finding their way through the maze that is the Labyrinth!
     - Helping campers decorate the Olympians cabins.
     - And so much more.

At the end, we will celebrate and reward campers for their assistance with their own winter bead!

*Students are expected to be somewhat familiar with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels by Rick Riordan, and/or have a basic knowledge of Greek Mythology. Students who have read any of the books from The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan may have a slight advantage.*

Learning Goals

I believe that learning should be fun. Students will learn about and test their knowledge of Greek Mythology and the books. Using their imagination and literary devices like foreshadowing, flashbacks, symbolism and imagery in storytelling they will work together to solve problems and “battle” mythological monsters and bad demigods!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
If your little hero chooses to dress up in costume complete with toy weapons, please speak with them before class about not pointing their weapons at the camera. Thank you in advance! Despite the fighting monsters topic, all imagery and battles will be very "G" rated.
Supply List
A print out "bead" will be provided after completing the class. Students can make theirs by printing out the paper, cutting it out, rolling it up and tacking down the end with a dot of glue.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Sources
We will be referring to trivia based upon the 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' series and characters found in 'The Lost Hero' from The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. Students are encouraged, but not required to have read the books.
