Do you think you could survive being stranded on a deserted island? Do you want to learn tips and tricks for surviving and thriving in the wild? Do you love the MythBusters? In this class we will follow the MythBusters as they attempt to survive on a deserted island using only one very handy tool - duct tape! We will learn by engaging in research, project based learning, experimentation, and group dialogue. Here is the schedule for this course: Schedule: Day 1: Research Day. Students will gain background knowledge about survival skills and the MythBusters through research, dialogue and activities. Day 2: Experiment Day. Students will create their own make shift compass! (Students will need a glass of water, a leaf, a needle and a magnet for this activity) Students will be assigned a choice project. Day 3: Students will present their choice project, data, and conclusion. They will discuss other student's work, the MythBuster's conclusion and extensions. Come ready to discuss, watch cool videos, create and learn about survival skills and duct tape!
Learning Goals
Students will understand how research, hypothesize, test and present a theory. Students will understand how taking correct procedures and developing skills are important to surviving if lost in the wilderness.

Parental Guidance
We will be discussing survival skills like making a knife for food.
Supply List
Students will need a leaf, needle, glass of water, magnet and a compass (the compass is optional). Students may want a can, duct tape or water bottle for choice activities.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
