****Your first class is HALF OFF with code LIANGLSZQQ5 This is a weekly class to learn or review phonics skills. Great for 3rd and 4th grade students to review phonics skills and improve spelling. Each week, students will use pre-selected letters and work together to build 12-15 words made from a bigger mystery word. The goal is to figure out the mystery word! I typically coordinate words with the season/holiday. The words start small and gradually get bigger as we move closer to the mystery word. Students learn new words, learn letter patterns, and work on spelling skills as they complete this activity. This is an effective method for strengthening spelling skills and brushing up on phonics skills! Such a fun and challenging way to improve literacy skills! This class covers the following skills: -phonemic awareness -phonics -spelling -vocabulary Students will each get the opportunity to build a world on slides but they will also build words at home using post its or any other paper squares/tiles that contain the letters of the week. This ensures that it is engaging and hands-on for everyone! They can also use whiteboards and dry erase markers. Whatever works best for them! If you need assistance determining if this class is a good match for you child, please message me and I'll help you with that! Perfect class for brushing up on phonics skills or learning new ones! Each week, I will list the letters needed for our mystery word at the beginning of class. You may write them on post its, paper squares, use magnetic letters and a cooking sheet, or a dry erase marker and white board. Students just need to be able to manipulate the letters to make smaller words out of our mystery word. This keeps it interactive and engaging! ***Please be sure to use a desktop computer as well, so students may be given remote access when it's their turn to make a word! LESSONS: September: back to school! October: spooky words! November: fall words! December: holiday words! I also offer 1:1 reading tutoring sessions. Please reach out if I can be of any help!

Background:
I received my bachelor’s degree in special education and my master’s degree in reading. I am certified in early childhood education, mild-moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I taught in public schools for 12 years. I taught prek, kindergarten, 1st-3rd students with learning disabilities, and middle school students with learning disabilities.
I left the classroom to start my own reading tutoring business. I now solely tutor students in reading and teach on Outschool.
Philosophy:
I follow Science of Reading practices. I use a phonological awareness and phonics scope and sequence when instructing students. Lessons are customized to their reading needs.
I believe in play based, hands-on, multi-sensory learning. My primary goal is for students to have fun so they never feel like learning to read is a chore. I believe the ability to read is the most important thing. It opens doors, takes us on adventures, and provides us unlimited knowledge.
What I Teach:
I offer phonics classes for elementary students, book clubs for secondary students, and individual reading tutoring.
