1 hour per week. There will not be any assigned homework for this class.Class Experience
This one-time piano class is for students who are interested in an introduction to piano. No prior experience is necessary. Having a piano or keyboard at hand during class will allow students to play along with Mrs. Pauli. Learners will need to be able to see their screen to view the music while playing on their instrument. In this lesson, Mrs. Pauli will introduce the keyboard and key names, treble clef and bass clef notes from C-G, right hand and left hand finger numbers, and examples of songs to be played with either right hand or left hand alone. We will use the songs "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "Jingle Bells", or "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven as examples of actual music and explain what is on the page. We will move at the learners' pace. The follow-up class is either the First 4 Piano Lessons, Summer Piano Camp, or Piano Music Class 1 (followed by Piano Music Classes 2-8 for up to 3 years of piano classes with the same instructor).
Learning Goals
Students are often very curious about the piano and playing music. The goal is to engage students and interact with learners to make piano fun. Teaching fingers to learn new skills, like playing individual notes, takes practice, and my goal is to give students the opportunity to take enough knowledge from this introduction to have something to practice on their own. I will provide the slideshow to learners at the end of class so they continue to practice the songs on their own. The follow-up class is the First 4 Piano Lessons, Summer Piano Camp, or Piano Music Class 1 depending on aptitude and previous musical experience.

Parental Guidance
Music will be provided on a Google slideshow after class and can be printed.
Supply List
Access to a piano or keyboard during lesson. {A substitution would be to print out a keyboard image from clip-art or draw one on paper or a dry erase board. I have had students use an app on a tablet or phone.} Students need to be able to see the classroom screen where the music will be shown in a slideshow while they are sitting at their piano.
