"Your mind is a garden and books are the seeds, so pick a favorite, and bloom as you read!" This class will examine the historical semi-fictional short stories, "My First Little House Books," over the course of six weeks. We will examine vocabulary and comprehension questions from each short book, but also dive into the world Laura Ingalls Wilder created with history and geography enrichment activities too. Discussion questions will be posted for class collaboration on the board after each session, as well as, further enrichment activities and research topics. This is a delightful classic that will enthrall and enchant those who read it! This is a self-paced course, so it is not a live-meeting course. It will be pre-recorded lessons, PDF packets (provided before the course begins), and conversation-starter discussion questions which will be posted to the virtual classroom on Outschool.com for the students to enjoy and learn at their own pace and according to their own schedule! This flex course is nineteen sessions over a six week course and exactly like a live course. This is simply one that you do not have to worry about schedule conflicts, poor internet with weather, or distracting behavior from other students. You can watch, re-watch, pause, rewind, and play the videos as much as you need. Parental Guidance
It must be noted that while this book is invaluable for his historical content and perspectives on Westward expansion of American history, some sensitive topics that will be addressed throughout the course including but not limited to: deer hunting and one-sided view of indigenous peoples of Texas. We will be noting and discussing these things during the conversation parts of the course. I have a M.A. in U.S. History with my thesis being on Native American studies. I believe in offering a multi-sided perspective in historical accounts.
