Class Experience

Each week we will be learning simple songs and singing together, both as a group, in echo style, and even short solos if students are comfortable. We will be playing simple shaking and tapping instruments, using them to play the steady beat along with both our singing and with recorded selections. We will use simple props like scarves to move both to the steady beat and expressively as we listen to music. We will practice focused listening as we listen to different instruments, to each other, and to recorded sounds. We will be playing musical games and having fun with music. We will be working on musical skills like singing on pitch, listening, steady beat, reading simple rhythms, and more! Music has so many additional benefits as well-- we will also be developing our social, emotional, cognitive and motor skills-- all as we sing and move together.

Parental Guidance
Learners will need some open floor space where they can comfortably move to the music. For younger learners, parent support may be helpful, although to protect everyone's privacy, parents should remain off camera. There are a few instruments/supplies which can either be gathered from materials in the student's home, or can be purchased from various retailers. (See supply list for more information.)
Supply List
1. A scarf or light weight piece of fabric for moving to the music; Here is one suggestion: https://tinyurl.com/dr3rkaf7
2. Rhythm sticks, dowel rods or wooden spoons for tapping together; Here is one option: https://tinyurl.com/ujcsu94a
3. Egg shaker, a small sealed container filled with rice, or other shaking instrument; Here is one suggestion: https://tinyurl.com/hvuveje2
All instruments/supplies can either be purchased, or created from materials that you have at home. Feel free to contact me for more suggestions. This same simple instrument kit can be used in other classes as well.
