Students will explore the lives and music of various influential Western composers from the Renaissance to the Modern Period. I will engage with learners through lectures and discussions that are supported by visually rich and interesting PowerPoint visuals and audio clips of the composers' most popular works. Special attention will be given to listening for and accurately identifying the style of each composer. Notetaking sheets will be provided, encouraging students to interact with the material and to retain what they've learned. No previous musical experience is necessary for learners to be successful in this class. ____________________________ The composers will be studied according the following schedule: Palestrina (Renaissance Period) J. Students will study various famous composers and be able to identify and appreciate their works.
Students will learn about the major periods of musical history. They'll learn about the styles and characteristics of each era, and how they influenced music.

*Renaissance music, including polyphonic songs
*Many types of choral music composed by Palestrina

*The life and works of German composer and organist, Bach (1685-1750)
*Baroque period instruments and music
*Bach's development of counterpoint

*The life and works of Austrian composer, Mozart (1756-1791)
*The music style of the Classical Period
