*NOT A DANCING CLASS In this class we will use music to spark our creativity, imagination, and acting skills. Every class we will listen to an instrumental song (without lyrics). Students will be encouraged to move/dance in whatever way they feel moved to do. After the song is complete students will be prompted to discuss and act out how the song made them feel and see in their imagination and why. Example discussion: Teacher: How did that song make you feel? Students: Excited! Teacher: What about the music was exciting? Students: The music was really fast and there was loud drums. Teacher: SHow me what excited looks like! Can you act it out? Teacher: Okay! Let's make our story. Why could we be excited? Students: We discovered a new animal! Teacher: We did?! What does this animal look like? Is it big? Does it have fur? What color is it? What does it sound like? Etc. Students can feel free to draw if they want to and feel like they can access their imaginations more that way. This class is ongoing, which means learners can add and drop it as they please! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome! My name is Miss Alix. I love to teach singing techniques that help my students discover their own unique voices and style of expression. I encourage positivity (to yourself and others), fun, and confidence in my classes. I am always so excited to work with my students and that energy never fails to spark creativity and active imaginations*.
A little bit about my credentials and experience: I received my Master of Arts in Musical Theater from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I am a certified singing teacher. I work professionally as an actor and singer performing on stage and in film, as well as narrating audiobooks. I have been teaching kids of various ages for several years and nothing makes me happier than when a student has a performance breakthrough, even if it's just that they've gained some confidence. I was also homeschooled until high school (military family), so I know the ins and outs of homeschool/online school life, and how hard it can be to supplement that education with electives, especially in the arts.
I believe involvement in performing arts is a fantastic and important way for kids to discover who they are and how to express themselves. They learn to be open-minded as they literally put themselves in other people's shoes. The confidence, expressiveness, and empathy that kids learn in performance arts bleed into every aspect of their life.
When I'm not nerding out about performance-related things I love to be outside in nature. If I'm not outside you can usually find me cuddling with my cat reading YA fantasy or watching something Marvel related. And I'll always, always have a cup of coffee nearby.
Happy learning!

Class Policies:
1) I expect all students to be respectful and supportive of themselves and their classmates. My classroom is a safe place to practice, mess up, and make break-throughs. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and you will always learn something by watching your classmates learn.
2) I aim to keep classes within the scheduled time frame, however, classes may run a few minutes under or a few minutes overdue to the energy/participation of students on that specific day.
3) I will start at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom.
4) I will offer full refunds for missed class if I am informed at least 24 hours in advance.
