Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 4
This one-time science class will be interesting to anyone curious about how, where, and why mushrooms grow. No prior knowledge is needed. We will also talk about some mushroom folklore including mushroom fairy rings and the scarlet elf cap mushroom. If time allows, we will have a fun...
- Students will learn what fungus is, how mushrooms are a type of fungus, how mushroom mycelium grows underground before we see the fruit, how mushroom fruit releases spores which lead to the growth of more mushrooms, how mushrooms can have a symbiotic or parasitic relationship with plants, and how mushrooms are critical in the decomposition of plant waste. Students will learn important vocabulary such as mycelium, hyphae, saprotroph, and more.
