Do you want to learn about the Iditarod; The Last Great Race on Earth? Join me for this engaging and thrilling ride through the wonderous Alaskan terrain. Students will be able to interact with the teacher and other students in this class. Students will be encouraged to share information, the progress of their musher and the results of the race. We will end with a reflection. Learning Goals
Students will learn about a Social Studies current event, the Iditarod. They will about the history and information about the Iditarod. Also, project based learning will be provided as students track a real musher and then write in the information and fiction genres.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a 3rd grade teacher in Oregon, I am certified to teach multi-subjects and I love Social Studies. I have made many trips to Alaska and have even taken an Iditaride with real Iditarod Sled Dogs! I have taught this unit in a regular classroom for almost 10 years. As my third graders come back to visit, this is a highlight they always remember.
