Beginner Level
Each week in this ongoing course, students will learn a different strategy to make multiplication easier to understand. We will focus on one technique per week and learn everything there is to know about it! This includes learning how to solve a problem using this strategy and understanding how each method works. I aim to help your child thoroughly understand the process of solving multiplication problems, not just memorizing math facts. This course is designed for students who are just starting to learn multiplication. We will focus on single-digit multiplication (i.e., 9 x 8) and multiplication up to 12. Since this course is ongoing, your child can join in the fun at any time to learn one strategy in particular or to build their mathematical toolbox as a whole! Each strategy is independent of the next, so your child does not need to know one method to learn another. Although our strategy will change each week, our routine will not. Each 45-minute class will include the following: - Student Introduction and Class Expectations - Multiplication Math Warmup - Introduction/ Review of the Weekly Strategy - Weekly Strategy Practice and Discussion - Multiplication Masters Mania, a game to promote the use of each multiplication strategy Here is a list of our upcoming strategies: - Week of May 29th: Arrays - Week of June 5th: Skip Counting (4s) - Week of June 12th: Times Tables Tricks (4s) - Week of June 19th: Number Lines - Week of June 26th: Skip Counting (6s) - Week of July 3rd: NO CLASS - Week of July 10th:Times Tables Tricks (6s) - Week of July 17th: Decomposing Factors - Week of July 24th: Skip Counting (7s) - Week of July 31st: Times Tables Tricks (7s) - Week of August 7th: Equal Groups - Week of August 14th: Skip Counting (8s) - Week of August 21st: Times Tables Tricks (8s) Past Topics Include: - Repeated Addition - Skip Counting (9s) - Times Table Tricks (9s) - Communitive Property of Multiplication - Skip Counting (3s) - Times Tables Tricks (3s) - Skip Counting (2s, 5s, 10s) - Times Tables Tricks (0s, 1s, 2s, 5s) - Skip Counting (11s, 12s) - Times Table Tricks (10s, 11s, 12s) In our class, students are encouraged to ask questions, and they are allowed to make mistakes. In this fun and engaging environment, each student’s effort will be cheered on because, quite frankly, they deserve to know what excellent learners they are! I hope to see you soon!

I am a licensed elementary school teacher with five years of classroom experience working with students in grades K-5. I am well-versed in all current mathematical strategies used in classrooms across the country as well as the educational requirements set by Common Core State Standards. I work to help all students succeed in math by allowing them to find which mathematical strategies work best for them as an individual. I then work with them to develop a deeper level of understanding of their preferred strategy. I believe that all students deserve a positive learning environment where they are encouraged to ask questions and their efforts are celebrated.
