Multiplication and Division Boot Camp!

Does your learner struggle with long division and multidigit multiplication of whole numbers? Do they need strategies that will stick and time to practice those skills?  Join me in this 5 day long 45 minutes a day camp where that is exactly what we will do. This course will use word and basic problems for students to understand when to multiply and when to divide.  It will be taught in an I do, we do, you do teaching method and students will be given plenty of practice. Students will be shown standard algorithm and algorithms using place value. Level of practice problems each day will be based on student ability level. The problems will be individualized if students are not at the same level.  

Day1: Using basic problems teacher will work with students to determine their ability and comfort level with both multiplication and division. We will also use word problems to assess students knowledge of solving word problems. We will specifically look at word problems and develop a strategy to determine if they are multiplication or division. 

Day 2: On this day we will use the strategy of Partial Products to solve multidigit multiplication problems. Teacher will demonstrate, students will help walk the teacher through a second problem and last students will solve the problem on their own. Students will then be given problems to try on their own with teacher assistance when needed. 

Day 3: On this day we will use the standard algorithm strategy for solving multidigit multiplication. Teacher will demonstrate, students will help walk the teacher through a second problem and last students will solve the problem on their own. Students will then be given problems to try on their own with teacher assistance when needed. 

Day 4: On this day we will begin division using the partial quotients or repeated subtraction method.   Teacher will demonstrate, students will help walk the teacher through a second problem and last students will solve the problem on their own. Students will then be given problems to try on their own with teacher assistance when needed. 

Day 5: On this day we will use the standard algorithm strategy for long division.  Teacher will demonstrate, students will help walk the teacher through a second problem and last students will solve the problem on their own. Students will then be given problems to try on their own with teacher assistance when needed. We will take the last 15 minutes in this class to review word problem strategies.
