In this self-paced class, spellers will increase their skills, confidence, and abilities to spell words at the 2nd-4th grade level. Excellent for students with dyslexia or other spelling difficulties.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Long A Vowel Teams
Learners will be introduced to vowel teams ai/ay and learn when to use each.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Long E Vowel Teams
Learners will be introduced to vowel teams ee/ea and learn when to use each.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Long O Vowel Teams
Learners will be introduced to vowel teams oe/oa/ow and learn when to use each.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Bossy R Syllables (ar/or)
Learners will be introduced to "bossy r" syllables, focusing on the /ar/ and /or/ sounds and their most common spellings.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Bossy R Syllables (ir/er/ur)
Learners will continue exploring "bossy r" syllables with a focus on the /er/ sound spelled er/ir/ur.

Lesson 6
Long I Vowel Teams
Learners will be introduced to igh and ie.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
OY sound (boy, noise)
Learners will be introduced to the oy sound spelled oy and oi and learn when to use each spelling.

OW sound (cow, sound)
Learners will be introduced to the ow sound spelled ou and ow and learn when to use each spelling.

Lesson 9
AW sound (haul, saw)
Learners will be introduced to the aw sound spelled au and aw and learn when to use each spelling.

Lesson 10
Two Sounds of OO
Learners will explore the two sounds of oo and practice using the spelling for both sounds.
 Week 11
Lesson 11
Adjacent Vowels
Learners will explore when two vowels are next to each other, but not working together (lion, idea).
 Week 12
Lesson 12
CLe Syllables
Learners will dive deeper into the English spelling convention (every syllable must have a written vowel) to understand and spell with consonant-l-e syllables.
Learners will improve their spelling of phonetically regular word through multi-sensory techniques and improvement in phonemic awareness.
I am a certified elementary teacher with years of experience in schools. I have also taught ESL for 3 years on-line, and hold an MA in Teaching from Dominican University. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach through IMSE (30-hour) and the Reed Charitable Foundation Classroom Educator (30-hour course).
Homework Offered
Students will receive a spelling practice page with each lesson. The words on this last can be used as a "test" and submitted for feedback directly, or just as additional practice at home.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners can use weekly spelling lists as a check for understanding for the phonics rules. These can be sent to the teacher for feedback and correction.
Grades Offered
This class is designed using methods proven effective for learners with dyslexia, but all learners can benefit from the methods.
