What's included
4 live meetings
2 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Outside of class, students will be required to work on their own writing by answering the prompts given in class or working on a project of their own so that they have something to share with the group during the second class meeting during each week. This usually takes 5-10 minutes each week to work on and can often be done during class as well, so there is very little homework.Assessment
Assessments will be done formatively through observation during the second meeting of class each week when students share their own writing. This will not be done so by giving a grade, but is just meant for the teacher to know where each student is at in their writing so that the teacher can meet them where they are at and help them where they may need it.Grading
includedClass Experience
US Grade 8 - 11
In this class, learners will collaborate with one another on their own creative story ideas by going through several fun writing prompts each week that includes a new element in creative writing. The first meeting during the week will cover the weekly topic and content, then they will be introduced to the weekly writing prompts that go with the creative writing element that was introduced that week. Then during the next meeting, we will share out our writing together as a group. The writing from each week that we will share will either be personal developments in individual writing projects, or what learners came up with for answers to the fun creative writing practice prompts from the previous meeting! Creative Writing Elements by Week: Week 1: Characterization Week 2: Setting Week 3: Imagery (5 Senses) Week 4: Audience **No experience in creative writing is needed for this course. This course welcomes new writers who want to learn what it is like to write creatively. However, learners should be advanced enough in their writing abilities to be able to write sentences and paragraphs on their own.**
Learning Goals
Students will learn about different elements in creative writing and how they come together to build their very own story!
