Mrs. Nicole's Book Club - Let's Read the Creative Story, Frindle!

In this 6 week class, your child will read the assigned chapters at home each week. We will then meet in class once a week to discuss our thoughts, predictions, and more over the chapters. We'll end our last class with a fun activity!

This IS such a FUN book!

Your child will need their own copy of Frindle, written by Andrew Clements.

*Chapters will need to be read outside of class time.
We will not be reading together during class time, but will be discussing what we have read.

Below, you will find a detailed outline of our 6 weeks together. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me. :)

Week 1:
Introductions! We will take a look at our new book, discuss the rules of our book club, and get to know each other. Please bring your favorite book of all time to share with the class too! Maybe it could be our next book club! :)

Week 2:
We will discuss Chapters 1-3.

Week 3:
We will discuss Chapters 4-6.

Week 4:
We will discuss Chapters 7-12.

Week 5:
We will discuss Chapters 13-15. End of our book!

Week 6:
My favorite week! In this book, your child will learn that Frindle is a new and creative word for an everyday object. Your child will come to class on this day with an appropriate object (paper, toothbrush, book, stapler, straw, literally anything appropriate) of their choice. I will have asked them to make a new name for it, and come to class ready to sell us on the name! Super fun!
Learning Goals
Students are encouraged to read weekly and come to class to interact with the teacher and other peers. I offer a positive environment where there are no wrong answers or silly questions.
I want your child to gain confidence in talking, sharing their opinion, and listening to others thoughts too.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Nicole. I have been in the education field for 24 years. I enjoy teaching children of all ages. Helping children build speaking and listening skills brings me so much joy! I have been an English tutor for 7 years and have a love for all things Language Arts! I have a degree in Social Sciences, I'm TESOL certified, a First Aid and CPR instructor, and a homeschooling momma too!

My teaching style is patient, friendly, and supportive. In my classroom, we will learn skills on how to engage with others while speaking and listening. I want your child to be successful just as much as you do! I aim to have a fun and educational classroom! One that your child will look forward to attending each time!

A fun fact about me is that.....I’m a dance mom! My youngest daughter is on a competition team, so that means a lot of fun weekends. We travel locally and she competes in hip-hop, lyrical, and ballet!

I look forward to meeting your child in my classroom soon!
