Hi, I'm Mrs. Moony. It's glad to see you here. This class is designed especially for elementary students! My goal is to make learning Mandarin both exciting and educational, using real-life topics and interactive methods. In just 15 minutes per session, your child will embark on an engaging journey into the world of Mandarin Chinese and Simplified Chinese characters. Here’s what to expect: Each week, our lessons are themed around real-life topics that are relevant and interesting for young learners. 6-10 new Mandarin words will be taught in each class. By learning words, they will get familiar with Pinyin and Chinese Characters, and get ready for next level. Example Vocabulary (for a lesson on “Food and Snacks”): 苹果 (píngguǒ) - Apple 面包 (miànbāo) - Bread 牛奶 (niúnǎi) - Milk 香蕉 (xiāngjiāo) - Banana 饼干 (bǐnggān) - Cookie 水 (shuǐ) - Water We will help your child master pronunciation and understand the meaning of each word. 1-2 basic phrases will be followed per class, showing how new vocabulary can be used in sentences. Example Phrases (for the “Food and Snacks” lesson): 我喜欢苹果。 (Wǒ xǐhuān píngguǒ.) - I like apples. 我要喝牛奶。 (Wǒ yào hē niúnǎi.) - I want to drink milk. I use slides and video clips to visually present new vocabulary and phrases, making learning more dynamic. Games and worksheets are incorporated to reinforce new knowledge and ensure that students have fun while learning. My teaching style is fun and engaging, because I believe learning happens when students feel relax. I'd like to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and encouraged to participate. My goal is to inspire students to challenge themselves and build their confidence in using Mandarin. During and after class, students will participate in games and complete worksheets to review and practice what they’ve learned. I'm always on their side to answer any questions or listen to their thoughts. Please be noticed that this is an "Asynchronous" class, means NO live meetings. Students are encouraged to learn with their own pace, I'll support anytime they need me.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Dear parents and students,
It's Mrs. Moony, you can also call me Zhang Laoshi (张老师) in Chinese way.
Thank you so much for your interested in my class. I have to say it feels amazing to be an educator on Outschool for more than a year. As a Mandarin native speaker, I'm passionate to put my strength together with my interest ( teaching).
I was born in Beijing, China, lived in US from 2016 for 5 years and moved to Canada in 2021. I used to work as an HR professional and a leadership coach before I moved to US. I trained employees to match organization’s business needs; I supported individuals to improve their personal productivity in both work places and daily life by working as a personal/group coach.
After moved to US, I started to teach Mandarin Chinese in local Chinese school and established Chinese clubs in local public schools as afterschool programs. As a co-founder of a non-profit organization, I initiated events to local communities to share Chinese culture. Those experience gave me so much good memories and let me realized my mission and my passion which has motivated me to improve my teaching all the time.
I'm NOT a certified teacher, but I AM a mom of 3 wonderful kids. I understand all the struggles that parents face when their children are learning Mandarin. I observed how much my daughter hated boring lecture Mandarin classes and restrict teachers. I also know how things changed when I made Mandarin learning a fun and interactive time. I have taught them Mandarin for 6 years, the key for success are patient and engaging, which is my teaching style in the class. I would like to give students reasonable LESS new things in each class and nurture them for MORE interests.
I love challenging myself, so I’ve learned piano, jazz, and yoga at the age of 30+ and I have been learning English until now, YES! I mean today:) I have gained so much sense of accomplishments the first time when I could play a song, perform my jazz on a show, and made headstand position. I believe students could feel the same way when they can finally say something in mandarin, share something about China, read Chinese books, even writing a letter in simplified mandarin Chinese, I’ll ensure their class experience be fun and engaging, they will know they can make all above come true with my little support.
I love cooking and baking, and I love making yummy food with my children. I love travelling, I have been to more than 20 provinces in China, more than 10 states in US and 4 provinces in Canada, I also traveled to Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, Honduras, Belize with my family. I enjoy making new friends and learning to be inclusive and open to anyone and any culture.
I hope to meet you and your family sooner or later and make friend with you:)
