Saxon Math 8/7 focuses on direct instruction, in-class practice, and homework corrections using the Saxon Math Homeschool program, but with a scaled down pace to permit greater focus on specific math skills. There is also an emphasis on the academic vocabularly associated with mathematics. The format for each session follows this pattern: * Check homework (except for the first session, of course). * Review previous concepts as necessary. * Introduce new concept and have students work with sample problems. * Assign homework. The topics to be covered include the following: Sessions 1-2. Arithmetic with Whole Numbers and Money, Variables and Evaluation, Properties of Operations, and Sequences Sessions 3. Missing Numbers in Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division; Number Line. Homework consists of solving problems that cover the current session's topic(s) as well as topics from previous sessions.
